The option to purchase perpetual licenses for Dynamics 365 Business Central On-Premise will be discontinued for new customers as of April 1, 2025.
This means:
- As a new customer, you can still purchase such a license until 31 March 2025.
- After March 31, 2025, only subscription models (subscription licenses) will be available for new customers.
What does that mean for you?
- If you prefer an on-premise solution and are a new customer, you should make your decision by March 31, 2025 in order to be able to purchase a perpetual license.
- If you already have an on-premise license, you can continue to use and extend it.
- If you are a new customer and are interested in a cloud solution, Microsoft offers attractive transition options, such as discounted cloud licenses for existing customers.
Why this change?
Microsoft is pursuing a clear strategy with this changeover: moving its customers to the cloud. Cloud solutions offer numerous advantages such as greater flexibility, faster updates and better scalability.
Important notes:
- Existing customers: Existing customers can continue to use and extend their on-premise licenses after March 31, 2025. The extension may require an existing software maintenance contract
- Subscription licenses: These generally require ongoing payment and usually provide access to the latest features and updates.
- Advice: It is advisable to consult a Microsoft partner before making a decision in order to find the best solution for your individual requirements.
